1 of 2 survivors Bettly Nettle mentioned from the island - apparently passed away many years ago, as did his wife. From obituaries he died before his wife did. He had a son Jerome Holmes jr. who also resides in New York Queensbridge Houses area.
There is a Jerome Holmes jr that made the news several times:
1. When he lost his job as a subway conductor after failing to stop and eventually rear ending another train. He was found to be heavily intoxicated at the time.
2. He appeared again as a "poster child" for a at the time new city wide recovery program and did several interviews promoting the program including mentioning that after his father's death he developed a substance abuse problem and wanted to help others get clean.
3. He was arrested again in an illegal gambling operation sweep.
4. Was arrested in Vegas on drunk and disorderly charges. This only made the news in brief because he had apparently just prior to his arrest won with a royal flush after betting the last of his money. Due to the arrest he never received his winnings and declined to comment if he was going to seek legal action to get his winnings.
