You will each now need to come up with a true name for your character.
If your true name is found out, spells have a stronger impact on them and are harder to resist.
This doesn't, and shouldn't, be a name in a convention or pronounceable sense and can be just a string of letters.
You were likely unaware of your true name until some point when you were able to start empowering runes it became more apparent to you.
True names can be learned:
Muttered in sleep.
Significantly wounded to unconscious/dying.
Coming out of a coma.
If someone asks you, you are free to tell them, but this gives them significant command over you.
Something knows it and speaks it to where others can hear.
