Insos Orphan Dump Empty
PostSubject: Insos Orphan Dump   Insos Orphan Dump EmptyWed Feb 23, 2022 2:01 am

This is the information available that would seem to most likely pertain to the children from an Insos perspective.

The Lady Of Endless Sorrow
She is considered to one of the twin sisters, and one of five widowed ladies.  When placed on the table "All children are removed from play." This includes not just child cards but those in the room as well, be they participating or simply observing.  This is considered one of eight reasons children should refrain from playing Insospettirsi.

The Ceaseless Orphan
"One may find a certain condolence in doubt. But that child offers no lies or excuses." ~The Knife Missing

Purists have spent long night in debates and arguments over rulings concerning The Ceaseless Orphan. Mostly due to the ambiguous original rule to her that translates simply to, "Mothers are lost from house."
The current rulings most often played under however state:

When played in a house position, the Lady Of The House is removed from play. This being the second card from the left, or the position to the right of the Head Of The House.
If played in a house position of a house owned by a mother (A female player of or current with child) of where no card holds the Lady Of The House position, the player is removed from play.

Records indicate that the child need not be present at the game for this rule to apply, that simply having a child, if even at home and away from the game, is enough to remove the player. There also exist some notes that mothers witnessing the game have been asked to leave when their husbands have received the card.

For those wondering as why The Ceaseless Orphan does not remove "Mother" titled cards from play. The generally accepted argument is that those cards deemed "mother" cards are elevated and often represent an already "dead" entity or spirit of corrupting guidance. And the card is meant to therefor apply to those cards considered living character cards. It is further noted that the card's portrait inexplicably changed at some point in the past, with the original bearing remarkable similarity to Claritia Charlet. Whom had notoriously and unapologetically stabbed no less than four of her step mothers. Claritia died at age fourteen from starvation and exposure, alone in the woods.

The Unnamed Orphan
"Look not upon this wretched creature, lest thy soul be moved." ~The Chaperone

Though sometimes referred to as "The Orphan Mother" this name is in jest only and not title for the card holds no mother status. Being one of the seven orphan cards, it is to be removed from the deck prior to play and placed in the room or taken by a witness.

The card, if discovered or seen or revealed to a player is immediately discarded. If the player's house is ruled by a royal suit card they must begin discarding their coin cards starting with those in hand and proceeding to any coin cards in house.
The exception is a house with the Three Of Cups (The Mistress) that is wed and in the head position. In this case the house she is married to suffers the effect but only for as long as the marriage lasts.
The effect is permanent and lasts the entire game. A particularly devastating card for the player hoping to achieve a coins victory, though victory is not considered impossible.

The Daughter of Mercy
"Do not ask the child for what she has not received."

The Daughter Of Mercy is one of the seven orphan cards. These cards are considered official in a "sitting deck" but are excluded from play.  Typically an orphan card is given to those witnessing the game. In the event there are more cards than witnesses, the remaining orphans are hidden throughout the room.  A witness possessing The Daughter Of Mercy card is not allowed to interfere, prevent, or protest, any discomforting act being brought upon another player.

The Insidious Daughter
"Do not pity the beatings she receives. She endures them, and continues to rise.
And do not be deceived by her cries, she deserves the beatings and it is us that cry."

The Insidious Daughter when played as a house card is a subtle but not impressive card. When played as a suit card though, she becomes incredibly difficult to defeat.  Do not feel alone, many a player has come to despise The Insidious Daughter.

Bonus
The Midwife
"May the house be warned of she that touches your children first, of the blood she does not wince." ~The Children Of Insospettirsi

The Midwife was subject to much controversy and discussion but largely thought to one day ascend to mother status.
The Midwife is the second reason it is recommended children not play Insospettirsi. Once per turn the player may remove a child from play. (Either card or actual child)
The Midwife is also the only card truly capable of achieving the "The Lineage" victory. Though this victory has no effect upon the game. To accomplish this, once per turn the player may reveal the location of one of the seven removed orphan cards.
Her truly frightening power however lays in the player's ability to once per round deny the entry of a card to "The Heir" position of their house.
The Midwife may never marry.

The Midwife card also features in the background a shadow cast onto the tower like structure. Though standing straight up, the shadow is thought to be that of The Divora.
It has been questioned if the Divora shadow is actually that of the Midwife herself.

The Divora
The Divora is not a card but a figure depicted on some of the cards.
The shrouded bone figure depicted in Insospettirsi cards is often mistaken by the amateur to symbolize death. However this form is more accurately one of the Siccitas Divora Lisca. It is said the appearance of one of these handless cloaked figures heralds the arrival of, "a bitter message of hopeless grief."

One of these can be seen in the background of The Lucky Fool

The Lucky Fool
The distance between genius and folly is but a coin flip of width." ~March Of The Queen

The Lucky Fool requires a subtle cunning of sly planning to draw victory.  Nearly all events that might befall him are prone to failing, fortune and misfortune alike. To claim The Fool's victory he must have never seen the discard pile, survive the entire game and be in play before another player claims victory. The wise fool player will move the card's position in hand, never revealing he holds the fool, and ever vigilant for when victory is near.

While we are on the subject:

The Traitor
"One night, the dog decided it would rather go hungry than live with the butcher any longer." ~The Butcher's Dog

It is no coincidence that The Traitor resembles the rather minor secondary character known as The Witness.
The Traitor, due to being thought of as representative of an unknown, is not considered eligible.
The Traitor is allowed to be played from either hand or house.
If played directly from hand, the player may use it to immediately remove a card from play that has just been played by another player.
If played from a house position to remove a card, the card must already have been in play and initiated a contesting since The Traitor has been in house.
In either case, instead of discarding, another player may offer to "shelter" the traitor in an open house position. The card is considered to still belong to the original player however the sheltering player is responsible for keeping the card and may discard it at any time. Neither player may use the card again.

It is not clear if The Traitor is The Witness ascended, however it is thought that having seen the devastation of The Crown and The Swords, The Witness chooses a side, takes up arms and hence ascends. Play wise however The Traitor never needs to choose a side and moves freely.
Others however believe it is just a similar dress and that The Traitor, like The Witness, moves unnoticed.

The Traitor is sometimes linked The Regrouping which is often thought linked to the suit The Swords.
In The Regrouping a group of revolutionists attempt to overthrow The Crown, but their attack is thwarted. The group falls back to take up shelter at the home of a wealthy sympathizer.
There they plan their next move, which walks them into an ambush. Be it due to being a traitor, coward, or spy, one among them does not go but opts, in the chaos of the fight, to run to safety.
After the group is slaughtered he comes out of hiding and begins plotting against the houses and the crown in an attempt to pit all the sides against each other and sow distrust.
The story ends with a new group of revolutionists having formed, and while plotting their overthrow they are outed and executed by an unknown party. The final sentence reads, "Of treason, there were rumors, and the coincidence of happenstance."

The Regrouping later became a sort of drinking poem story told as:
They reconvened, discreetly.
They argued, frantically.
He evaded, wisely.
He plotted, vengefully, cunningly, and methodically.

At which point everyone toasts and laughs. Then per tradition someone shouts the final line, "Of treason, there were rumors, and the coincidence of happenstance."
And everyone is said to drink again.
