Eerling on the Necros Empty
PostSubject: Eerling on the Necros    Eerling on the Necros EmptyThu Jul 06, 2023 12:54 am

Eerling says, "well let's get Lucien, I don't want to repeat myself."

He'll produce a palm sized notebook tucked within the pages of his larger notebook. He licks a finger and starts thumbing through the pages of strange but growing familiar symbols.

"The Necros are, living machines, of sorts. People associate them with death but that isn't quite right. Astroth is death, he kills. The Necros are a patch work solution to bring about change. Take The Bowl for example, granted there are some exceptions of sorts there, but those that were there, couldn't produce surplus. Trees generally don't chop, stones don't break, etc. The Necros change things, yes largely by grinding it all up, but they effect change."

"The Necros are, their instructions, are written on what we call tablets. I don't think anyone knows how many tablets there are, but we can use this tablets system to our advantage. The Necros...don't have a zero...." Eerling points to a page with number translated symbols on them.
"No zero at all, so they don't a ten, or a 100. We can still read something as two hundred fifty six, but for them it is just a 2, 5, 6..... but that's academic. They don't "see" things as...well they see things as parts. It was explained to me as, they see a donut as 1 part the cylindrical dough, and a second part, the hole. And that's about as far as it was explained to me, so don't..." He looks at Percival. "start quizzing me on it."
"But again, this is about affecting change. A hole can be filled in. Fill in the hole and it isn't a donut, so it's been changed."

"Worshippers think if they can feed enough energy to the Necros they will re-awake...maybe they will maybe not. I don't know. But, they draw from...well everything. This isn't like "soul" stuff. Everything living has an energy to it. And if you think about all the crops harvested, eaten, all the grasses mowed, all the birds killed...that's a lot of energy. If they haven't awaken yet, I don't know when they would. Of course, there's an overflow of this energy, and they use that. Pieces that fracture off and leak into places, and morph. It's all around us, we just don't see it...them....normally don't."

"Ok, anyway....we can tap into this energy of they have. We have to use a sort of translator adapter rune, and there are a number of ways to do it sort of...well maybe two ways. It's fairly cheap and easy, at least at this point for you. You can let the Necro energy do the heavy lifting for summonings...and if you cheat the tablet system, you can pull off some Necro tricks.
And of course there is the hidden bonus I suppose that if you believe the few Necro Worshippers left, you'd be using Necro energy which would technically drain it and keep them from rising..."

Looking again at Percival, with a bit of annoyance, "since you like "theory".... It is possible the bells...the bells system...is a way of staving off all this excess build up...like, this graylands as you call it, is the result of all this excess energy having built up and sort of leaked between things, inflated it like a balloon into being its own dimension...so it just sort of recycles into itself, through the bells. Since the Necros don't exist. Of course, this modern world, their is a lifecycle system so...there is less now inflating it, the greylands, but that energy is still there. If you could create enough Necro..."batteries" ...Cores. It would soak up the entire greylands and collapse on itself."

"Of course...the main problem with tapping Necro energies is...when it goes wrong...it can ...really go wrong."

Eerling on the Necros Empty
PostSubject: Re: Eerling on the Necros    Eerling on the Necros EmptyThu Jul 06, 2023 12:55 am

Eerling does note there is a lot of temptation to use these. His understanding is that it can have catastrophic effects, even when properly works. He notes that some of these are associated with a Necro lord/commander, and they are said to have fairly strong powers.

Normal
For “normal” runic summoning spells, if Necromatic Runes are used to tap into their power:
Still must make a write check
Empowerment Cost = Flat rate of 1mp per component. Example: Summon + Circle of external Protect = 2mp
(Some Occasions might be 1d4)

Necro Specific

“Lightning”
(Not really lightning)*
Requires a material component. In the Necro runes, some side of the component must be designated as “up” or “out” or “top.”
Cost = 1 MP
Damage based loosely on size of object (maximum length of the top to bottom)
< 4ish to 5ish feet
1d4 for 1d8 rounds
>5 feet
1d8 for 1d8 rounds
Eerling has used before

Resurrect
Made on an amulet or otherwise somehow worn on the caster
Will resurrect Necro underlings/soldiers
Does not reanimate or awaken
Basically null spell
Eerling has used before

Nibblely Wigglies (Named by specially by Eerling)
Flying snake like “Worms” appear (ones visible during dirty castings) and begin devouring those around them.
Cost 1d4MP
Eerling has used before

Burn
Made on an amulet or otherwise somehow worn on the caster or in some “wand” like format
burning sun like light
Cost = 1 MP
Eerling has never used before

Frost & Dark
Made on an amulet or otherwise somehow worn on the caster or in some “wand” like format
Whipping freezing wind and washes darkness over everything
Eerling has never used before

Reap
Placed on a swung object
Essentially throws those in front of the swing but can cause damage to objects and buildings in front of the swing as well
Eerling has never used before

Reassemble
“Reassembles” dead things into new configurations
Note: In Eerling’s description it seems very similar to what Parker could do but not quite the same. If asked about it he doesn't know but will say he has heard of other similar types of powers.
Eerling has never used before

Terror
Made on an amulet or otherwise somehow worn on the caster, kept covered or hidden and needs to be revealed.
Those revealed to are frozen in terror for 1d4 rounds
Eerling has never used before, but he gets a bit dodgy about it

“Rot”
Eerling says “rot” isn’t quite the right word but that seems to be what it translates to and is what he was told it was called.
Made on an amulet or otherwise somehow worn on the caster or held.
Breaks down nonliving things
MP = 1
Eerling has never used before

Strike
Similar to lightning but a singular large downward seeming strike
Eerling has never used before

Summon Necro Sentinel Slave
This is more of a ritual. Eerling has never tried it. The "receiver" must also have a series of Necro markings placed on their body. He's heard rumors of things such as branding, tattooing, and even some sort of "molten metal scaring" having been used.
His understanding is that the sentinel "attaches" itself to the receiver. He's under the impression it offers some sort of protection but exactly what it can do or does do he is not sure.
