The Ellis House Empty
PostSubject: Eillis House    The Ellis House EmptyMon Jan 11, 2021 12:04 am

This is readily available info from sites like reddit ghost hunting and such:
The house originates from a photograph taken in about 1890 but its location was never recorded.
The house is named after the photographer.
The photo was taken using a Kodak box camera and appears in an out of print History of Kodak coffee table book published in 1963 marking Kodak’s 75th anniversary.
It is claimed that in the photo a little girl or possibly boy, is visible in one of the windows of the house that was not present on the negative. (This would seem to be an urban legend as the chance that anyone had access to the original negative would be highly unlikely.)

The photo turned up at a museum showing a history of photography and some claimed that there were two children visible in the photograph.

Others have claimed that they took pictures of the picture and when they looked at their pictures:
the children were not there - but visible in the original
- a women was visible in the upstairs window
- a man holding a knife was visible on the front steps
- a body was visible laying in the yard

The house and 120 acre property it sits on is managed by the Ellis Preservation Society.
The local paranormal groups in the Massachusetts area seem to have a strong disliking with the Preservation Society who have kept the property under tight lockdown and not allowed anyone to visit.
That said there are pics and videos of people having gone there and climbing or bending their way through the fence surrounding the property.
Some claim to have seen people performing ceremonies there at night. Claims often devolve into internet arguments because someone describes them as "wizards" and then someone says no "warlocks" and someone else says "wicans" then others say "druids." And they argue over the finer defining points.

People that have visited (illegally) haven't described anything you'd probably consider credible.
Some claim to feel a strange presence in the house.
For others it is just an atlas obscura bucket list item and paranormal never comes up in their videos or postings.

The house does seem to be still furnished and the Preservation Society has brought it back from nearly falling into a complete state of disrepair.

There is the Scituate Paranormal Activity group in the area that "claims" the house and does ghost tours which include approaching the gates to the property.
Boston Boo (the official unofficial name for the The Greater Boston Paranormal Investigation Research and Study Group) seems to have a rivalry with Scituate Paranormal Activity group about the house with Boston Boo accusing them of working with the Preservation Society.
Boston Boo has been trying to gain official access to the house for sometime and their forums are full of bickering between each other. Often it seems to come down to the Scituate Paranormal Activity group feeling Boston Boo's demands are too great and they should start small and gain the trust and faith of the Preservation Society first.
Boston Boo wants to spend a week to a month on sight investigating noting that any substantial claim of activity to have taken place in the house has been from residents of the house and simple overnight trips won't cut it.

The Preservation Society makes no claims of paranormal activity, simply noting the Ellis Estate House and property are of historic value and in order to keep it from being torn apart by "ghost hunting tourists" has had to be kept closed.
Their website also notes among the early occupants of the house having served as a summer home for William Vandermeer and it is believed to be where he was inspired and drew up plans for two of his patents: an armored diving suit and a spring loaded compact fleam.
The diving suit was a sort of "personal submarine." (It looks something like a large metal barrel for the upper torso, with stiff metal legs protruding from it. There are no ports for the arms as to allow the diver to take notes inside the barrel portion. It is fed with an external supply of air pumped from the surface.)
The fleam doesn't seem to be anything too remarkable. It is a slightly more compact spring loaded blade device for blood letting. There were already plenty of other ones, he invented another one.

Other families have lived or stayed there over the years & I'll post some more later.
